Baby Steps 3

It has been almost 10 weeks since I started this journey. I have been contacted but I also applied for a lot of different projects. The one thing that totally threw me off was the auditioning process. So far I only auditioned live once, all the other auditions have been self screenings. There are plusses and minuses to both processes. The big problem I see with self screenings is that in a normal live audition one can expect to find the director, the producer(s) and actors that read the lines that complement our lines. In a self screening process we need to have somebody reading the lines or find an alternative, or simply expect that the person reviewing the tape can see past our technical limitations and imagine the other characters interacting with us in the audition. A casting director receives hundreds of self screenings, thousands sometimes. My realization is that for every project I apply for, there will be competition. If I really want to thrive in the field, I will have to invest in some equipment and figure out the way to present myself the best possible way in every self screen I submit; otherwise I’ll just be cutting myself short.
